Wisconsin Dells 62, Mauston 61
A four-point deficit with 38.6 seconds remaining didn't scare the Wisconsin Dells boys basketball team Friday night.
The host Chiefs (6-2 South Central, 13-4) closed the game on a 5-0 run to beat Mauston (5-3, 12-6) in a South Central Conference game at Wisconsin Dells High School.
Down 61-57, senior Colin Hirst converted a 3-point play with 31.9 seconds remaining and then after a pair of missed free throws, helped set up the winning basket for Wisconsin Dells.
With time running down, Hirst drove the lane and fed a bounce pass to a back-cutting Matt Lutter, who converted a lay-up for a 62-61 lead with 2.1 left.
With one final chance, Mauston senior Joe Bauer's half-court heave hammered off the backboard.
Bauer led all scorers with 20 points, while junior Alex Weiss scored a team-high 15 to lead Wisconsin Dells.
