Alyssa Lemirande scored 16 points as the Middleton girls basketball team withstood a late rally to defeat Verona 65-57, to remain in a first place tie with Sun Prairie in the Big Eight. 

The Cardinals led by as many as 22 points in the second half, but Chandler Bainbridge spurred a comeback for the Wildcats, who couldn't fully close the gap.

Bainbridge had 21 points for Verona.

Bria Lemirande scored 15 points and Carlee Lemirande had 13 for Middleton, which played aggressive defense throughout and held Verona leading scorer Alex Luehring to nine points. 

Sisi Mitchell had 14 points for the Wildcats.
