In a double-overtime showdown, the visiting Madison La Follette boys basketball team was just able to survive and grab another Big Eight conference victory over Sun Prairie on Friday night. But, the Lancers did not go unscathed, as senior guard Donneil Gray suffered an injury in the first overtime.
The Lancers were up 17 points to start the second half, but the Cardinals came storming back and used 56-47 second half, plus a made 3-pointer from Dawson Hughes as time was expiring to force the first overtime.
Junior point guard Derek Grey was a force in both overtimes, as he tied the game up in the first and had two crucial buckets in the second to propel the Lancers (6-2, 6-1) to victory. Sun Prairie was down one point in the second overtime and missed a couple of highly contest put backs to end the game.
Madison La Follette got 27 points from Donneil Gray, shooting 8-for-10 from the line. Troy Reeves Jr. posted 24 points, and Derek Gray finished with 19 points.
For Sun Prairie (5-3, 4-3), junior forward Delaware Hale scored a game-high 31 points, making 12 field goals. Senior guard Anfernee Austin tallied 23 points, with 21 of those scored after halftime.
