Madison Edgewood defeated previously unbeaten Marshall in overtime 70-64 in a girls basketball WIAA Division 3 Sectional Semifinal Thursday night.
Junior Katie Meriggioli led the Crusaders (19-6) with 27 points. Sophomore Caitlin Link scored 15 points. Junior Estella Moschkau added 14. Meriggioli and Moschkau combined to shoot 15-of-21 from the free throw line.
The Crusaders took a six-point lead into halftime and extended the advantage to 10 points with 13 minutes to play. But the Cardinals (24-1) fought back and trailed by just two with 18 seconds left.
Marshall then tied the game and sent it to overtime with 4.7 seconds remaining.
Madison Edgewood outscored the Cardinals 12-6 in the extra period.
Senior Kelsey Bakken scored 23 points, including making four 3-pointers, for Marshall. Senior Dany Gumz added 18, making three 3-point field goals.
Marshall made nine 3-point baskets.
The Crusaders outscored the Cardinals 18-9 at the free throw line.
